easter smores.

mi familia is coming to st. louis this weekend to celebrate easter. i could not be more excited to have tthem here, especially my little neice and nephew. mother nature is being a bit difficult these days with a forecast of thunderstorms all weekend. BUT on the off chance that we end up having a dry night, how fun would it be to make these peep smore's in the backyard!?

we had a debate this morning at work on peeps.... do you find them delicious or gross? me, personally, i love them.

english television.

oh my goodness. i have not been so in love with a television show since the first couple seasons of lost, but this new masterpiece theater miniseries, downton abbey has me sipping tea and wearing lace.

downton abbey is created and written by julian fellowes, well known for his oscar-winning gosford park. within the first 5 minutes of the season you find out that the titanic has sunk and with it the two heirs of this beautiful english estate, downton abbey, leaving the fate of the estate unsettled. the story begins to unfold from there as you begin to learn about the characters in the house both upstairs and downstairs.

much of the plot revolves around the three daughters: lady edith, lady jane, and lady sybil. with two sisters myself, how can i not love it?

the costumes, location and set design are a feast for the eyes. watch it. you won't be sorry.

banana phone.

man, i wish i would have seen these one week earlier before i bought my new iphone 4 case. check out these great andy warhol cases from incase.

i would have to go with the velvet underground banana one. my college roommate and i thought it was hilarious to pretend the bananas were phones and would sit in our pjs and gab away on them all night. i know, we are soooo cool.

homemade hummus.

sunday was a day full of leisurely activities. it was a stunning 85 degrees outside and the summer skirts and flip flops came out for the first time in 2011. my neighbor and i decided that we needed some snacks for this wonderful porch weather. we took my standard hummus recipe and made a few variations.

5 minute hummus (adapted real simple)

ingredients:
1 15 oz. can of chickpeas rinsed
1 clove of garlic
1/4 cup of olive oil
2 T lemon juice
2 T tahini
1 t cumin
salt
paprika

instructions:
1. in a food processor combine chickpeas, garlic, olive oil, tahini, lemon juice, cumin and salt to taste. if hummus is too thick add a tablespoon of water at a time until reaching the desired consistency.
2. transfer to bowl and drizzle with olive oil. finish with a sprinkle of paprika.

** i used this recipe as a base and added in sun dried tomato spread to one batch and roasted red peppers and cayenne pepper to another batch. the possibilities are endless! next time i am thinking kalamata olives or wasabi powder.
