weekend (halloween!)

happy halloween weekend! i am plan on spending this weekend celebrating my fabulous friend, kate, who is turning 30 today. we plan on eating pizza, drinking wine and dancing our asses off. saturday will be for halloween party hopping. i'm attending a song title themed halloween party. still deciding between the following: born to run, roxanne, and maneater. any opinions? i am very excited to pass out candy to trick-or-treaters on sunday. apparently my new neighborhood gets lots of kids! our landlord told us to stock up on candy... hope there is still some left over for this sweet tooth. :)

i leave you with amy stein's series of photographs titled halloween in harlem. pretty great, huh? love the contrast of little kids against the big city background. could you imagine trick-or-treating in NYC? definitely a different experience than i had growing up in the heartland.

happy halloween!

lisa's smoothie.

i've been feeling a bit gut-tastic these past few days. chalk it up to the last weeks of indian summer that has been full of bbqs, oktoberfest, smore's making, wine drinking, etc., etc.

fun? yes. good for the waistline? no.

when feeling this way i try to make an effort of eating more raw foods. one of my favorite ways to do this is to start my day off with a raw food smoothie.

my brother-in-law's sister, lisa, taught me how to make this one and it is sweet and yummy. you would never guess that you are not only getting two servings of fruit, but two servings of veggies too! lisa is a total rockstar who lives a fabulous life out in big sur, who spends her days giving singing workshops and expanding her website design business.

lisa's smoothie

handful of frozen berries
1 banana*
large handful of fresh spinach
carrot juice

throw the berries, spinach and banana into the blender together and start with a big splash of carrot juice. i add more carrot juice until i get to the consistency i like.

easy as pie!
(without the calories)

*i tend to add frozen bananas that i peel and freeze right before they go bad. also great to use for banana bread.

fashion week sightings.

oh, fashion week. as much fun as it is to see all the coverage of what was being shown on rail-thin models walking down the runways, i love even more seeing the looks that street fashion bloggers were able to capture outside of the shows. lots of inspiration for the fall.

never been a huge fan of animal prints, but i am having a hard time NOT getting behind the leopard print trend. especially when it is paired with a simple white tank and blazer. this would be perfect for work or going out.

i love, love, love the bright mini skirt with the belted sweater/shirt look. perfect for the transitional weather of an indian summer. throw on some bangles and cute heels and you're set.

i love having painted nails. i have gotten into the habit of painting my nails every monday night (with the exception of last night) while watching gossip girl. it's my ultimate girly time of the week. i am especially liking the surprise of these neon green nails with the business look of the gray suit jacket -- i think the contrast is extra nice. never thought i would be running out to buy neon green nail polish, but i'm going to give it a try :)
